I had a slow day, pulled out my SLR, and staged myself a little photoshoot in the flat. Now, I get to foist my artsy nonsense upon you. Bwahaha.

Amanda Palmer in Wellington!

Today it's cold, windy, and overcast. I am staying inside, huddled in my room, until I have to walk to class at 3. In other words: Backlogged picture time!

Last Friday, we went to see Amanda Palmer (of the Dresden Dolls) at Bar Bodega in downtown Wellington. Of course, it was pouring, so I only brought my Cybershot for fear of soaking the SLR.






We got to the venue in one piece and managed to end up first in line, which enabled us to grab fantastic places in the crowd. Unfortunately, I valued my consciousness over the third-row spot I'd managed to snag and sacrificed a potentially awesome camera angle for a glass of ice water back at the bar. I still got a couple of shots, though!

Set for Summer!

I got some truly excellent news this weekend: I've been accepted into an NSF-funded summer REU at the University of Minnesota, working with a professor in the Institute for Rock Magnetism! Finally, I know what I'm doing when I get back to the USA. This is huge. If I'd ever had any doubts about my possible future in geology, they've dissipated completely. This? This is exactly what I want to do.

Being a weird kid and non-party-goer, I celebrated by eating an unreasonable amount of chocolate, trying pear cider (my second-ever alcohol), watching a movie with a few friends, staying up terribly late, and taking artsy photos of my farmers' market purchases.



























The content of this blog has, so far, deviated immensely from my normal photographic tendencies. Usually, if I'm given free range with a camera, I end up with shots like these. (Readers who've seen my other photography blogs knew this already.) Pardon the break from informative travel blogging. =)

Also, I've been here for a month. Whoa.

A Sunday Afternoon Excursion

On Sundays, as I've mentioned before, Wellington hosts a fantastic farmers' market. This week, Leslie and I walked down the hill to buy some fruit and I brought my SLR to shoot the scenery along the way.


We love this view. I have to shoot it every time.



The hill is pretty long...



...but we're getting used to it.



Finally, flat ground! (Okay, still an incline, but flatter.)



The graffiti here is pretty fantastic.

The View From Here

When it's cloudy out, I don't bother carrying my SLR. When I'm running errands, I don't bother carrying my SLR. It's a heavy little bugger, though I love it dearly, and I'd rather only use it if I know the shots will turn out alright. When it's sunny and I have nothing to do, however...I take lots of pictures.

Leslie and I had a miniature adventure the other day to nab some photos of the view from our street. Enjoy.
